ANTIBALAS: A JERSEY WAREHOUSE PARTY
ANTIBALAS
is a renowned Brooklyn-based Afrobeat collective formed in 1998 by Martín Perna, known for their high-energy music, heavily inspired by Fela Kuti and West African funk. The multi-instrumental group blends jazz, funk, dub, and traditional drumming, featuring a powerful, intricate horn section and complex, rhythmic, "bulletproof" grooves.
DJ RDubbs
plays deep cut disco, vintage house, bangin electro, sweaty funk & cosmic dance jams. Stick around late night and bust a move at the after party.
Door Code + Entry
When you arrive, type #0404# into the call box that is to the left of the front door.
(That’s #, then 0404, then # again). Walk up to the fifth floor, where the stage is.
If you have access needs, please call 929.322.3529 when you’re 10 mins away and someone will bring the freight elevator down for you. If you’re facing the building, there’s a driveway and ramp to the left side that leads to the elevator.
PARKING INFO
We highly encourage folks to carpool, uber, or take NJ Transit to Paterson station & walk (about 12 mins). Parking is limited to free street parking- Lawrence, Montgomery, and Lafayette are the best options, across the street from us. DO NOT park on River Street or the lot to the right of the building- you'll be towed!
SPEED THE PLOUGH W/ JON & DEENA (CUCUMBERS) & NOVELIST, RICK MOODY
Speed the Plough is a New Jersey -based chamber pop/indie rock band that has been playing since 1984. The band rose out of the ashes of The Trypes, a mainstay of the early ’80s Hoboken scene, which included most members of The Feelies, many of whom continued with STP through the band’s first decade.
Jon Fried & Deena Shoshkes started The Cucumbers and found a home in the 80's indie pop scene in Hoboken, NJ. They have created many varied musical projects, which are presented together, here. We hope you enjoy our new music, and newly re-mastered old recordings.
Rick Moody was born in New York City. He attended Brown and Columbia universities. His first novel, Garden State, was the winner of the 1991 Editor’s Choice Award from the Pushcart Press and was published in 1992. The Ice Storm was published in May 1994 by Little, Brown and Company. Foreign editions have been published in twenty countries. (A film version, directed by Ang Lee, was released by Fox Searchlight in 1997, and won best screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival.)
R.A.P. FERREIRA: Superior Healing Style East Coast Tour (w/ B:PM + OPEN JAM SESSION)
Sublimation compels the artist to beauty. Even the worker trafficking in ugly does so because they find the truth of the unattractive to be most gorgeous of all. As kindness becomes antiquated and paranoia the normal operating procedure, an art form as indulgent as rap can seem tasteless. Rap requires electricity, speakers, cables, stands, a table, lights, protection from the elements, an audience with at least one dollar. Rap grew with excess and is built from sampling buffet plates of perfection. The styles no longer ring free.
His ambitions are an ever widening vocabulary, a full gas tank, the next tour’s itinerary.
R.A.P. Ferreira will rap forever
