ESTEBANICO:ETUDES

Adapted from an in-progress multilingual musical theater epic exploring the colonization of American land and colorization of American mythology from the standpoint of the enigmatic 16th century “explorer”. These series of 'etudes' are durational compositions for marimba, crotales, chimes and an arsenal of drums accompanied by electronic score. They make up the wordless images of what will eventually become a five-hour operatic spectacle spanning 500 years and featuring a chorus of percussion-playing singers, a chamber orchestra, dancers, pipe organ, live electronics and multichannel audio video.

On Aug 7, Mantra Percussion will premiere the first half-hour of these etudes and Paul will join them for a performance of two songs from the upcoming opera.
