Prototype is excited to present another recording residency! This time, we have this HOLY rodeo! and partygirl in the limelight!
On Friday the 18th, witness their live recorded show before they have a full day of studio sessions on Saturday. At the show, they'll be joined by special guests Scott Pine and Nematode.
More about the bands:
this HOLY rodeo! is America's first fully corporate music venture in the form of a hyperactive and theatrical four-piece freak rock band. Brought to life in New York City by Mario Marques, Chris Harth, Sami Habib, and Gaetano Lardieri, they have entered a militant era in their quest for world domination. After being recruited via TikTok ads by the mercenary group ‘The Breeders’, the band has chronicled their experiences in the song, “the march of the breeders descends upon manhattan!”, which dropped April 16th. Their multi-faceted and over-the-top stage show has been praised by Beyond the Stage magazine as “...electric and eccentric…” and their music has been described as “...What the fuck?...the most unique tracks we’ve heard all year,” by Havoc Underground, and “Bursting with creative rock flair…” by Obscure Sound.
If you’ve seen partygirl’s name before, the word “maximalist” is never far behind. Since bandleader Pagona Kytzidis formed the group in 2021, the kinetic six-piece has amassed a cult following for their relentless, inventive music, a band equally likely to enter a soaring chorus as they are an earthshaking breakdown. Listen past the pyrotechnics and you’ll hear the energy of scrappy upstarts with the sharp songwriting to match their brute force strength.
In partygirl, everyone stands out at once— producer/guitarist Francesca Pastore’s pop-punk riffs, drummer Jonathan Ashley’s jam band rigor, violinist Claire Lin Jenkins’s orchestral grandeur, Andrew Jordan’s slinking bass, and saxophonist Jenna Love’s jazz roots. At the center of the sound is Kytzidis’s booming alto, equally influenced by Freddie Mercury as it is by Fiona Apple. Kytzidis started partygirl to confront and process an ascent into adulthood littered with gendered conflict, systemic violence, a global pandemic, and political instability. She conducts the band with the Greek word “parrhesia” as a lodestar: Speaking truth to power, whatever the risks.
Scott Pine is an indie-folk musician from Morristown, NJ.
Nematode is genre-deflecting neo-psych, anchored by Aaron Easton and Larry Flatley, who brought Nematode to life in late 2017 while living in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The duo have since relocated to New Jersey where they can write and record their own music in house as well as produce for other bands. They are joined in the studio and on stage by Brian Hughes, Eddy Machado, and Dan Silver.
